Most used types of flanges by various industries are
- Weld Neck Flanges: These flanges are identified by their projecting necks. The weld neck flange shares the same bevel and thickness as the pipe. This flange is intended for use in harsh environments such as high pressure, high temperatures, or sub-zero conditions.
- Slip-On Flanges: SO Flanges are the most cost-effective flanges available for purchase. The slip-on flange has a little larger diameter than the pipe, making it simpler to slip over it. These SS SO flanges are fillet welded into place and are suited for low-pressure applications.
- Blind Flanges: These flanges without a bore are used to seal pipe systems or vessel openings. These flanges are appropriate for vessels and piping systems that require frequent inspection. SS Blind flanges can easily withstand high tension induced by internal pressure.
- Threaded flanges: SS Threaded flanges are utilised in specialised applications and can be assembled without welding. SS threaded flanges are compatible with pipes that have external threads. Threaded flanges are not recommended for situations involving high pressure, high temperatures, or bending forces.
- Lap Joint Flanges: LJ / Loose Flanges are slip-on flanges used for stub end fittings. Lap-joint flanges are appropriate for piping systems that require frequent inspection and maintenance, such as low carbon steel or alloy steel pipes.
- Socket Weld Flanges: SW flanges are suitable for small diameter and high-pressure pipelines. The internal welds on the SS socket weld flange contribute to its durability and fatigue strength. Socket weld flanges are utilised in the chemical processing industry.
- Orifice Flanges: These steel flanges allow access to a line for metering liquids or gases. The orifice flanges are equipped with orifice plates or flow nozzles.
- Ring–Type Joint Flanges:RTJ flanges are used for high pressure and temperature applications. The SS RTJ flanges feature a groove that can be easily compressed on slip-on, blind, or weld neck flange. Where media is transferred at high pressure and high-temperature RTJ flange helps to avoid leaks in pipelines.
